Tuesday, January 24, 2012 – Agenda

I hope that everyone enjoyed the ski day, and those who stayed behind enjoyed their day with Mlle Spear. I enjoyed my time with JK’s as well.

I am looking forward to hearing and reading about all of your adventures! See you tomorrow!

What I’m Looking Forward To On The Ski Trip Tomorrwo

What I am looking forward to on the ski trip is to learn how to ski, to ski for the first time in my life, and to go to Mont cascade. Why I am looking forward to going to Mont cascade is because I have never been to Mont cascade before and I want to go there and ski. Also why I am looking forward to learn how to ski is because my dad used to be a skier and he had a lot of fun skiing and he wants me to learn how to ski. Finally why I want to ski is because it is a learning experience for me and that is what I am looking forward to and why I am looking forward to it.

Ski / SnowBoard Day!

On my first ski day I will be going snow boarding on my new snow board.  Also I want to learn how to be in control of my snow board and learn some new things about snowboardng.  I am looking forward to being outside with all my friends and it looks like nice weather.  See you all on the slopes.

What Are You Looking Forward To About The Ski Trip ?

What I am looking forward to in the ski trips are to learn how to ski because I have never skied before and it looks really fun. I also have wanted to go skiing ever since my sister got to go skiing at her old school. That is what I am looking forward to for our ski trips !

What I’m Looking Forward To On The Ski Trips

I think I’m going to have a lot of fun because this is my first time skiing.  I want to learn and not get hurt so I’m going to listen relly well.  My first run down the hill might be scary.

Monday, January 23, 2012 – Agenda

The start of an exciting week here at ALC! The first of our three Junior Ski Trips takes place tomorrow, and the weather looks very pleasant (not too cold… not too snowy). Of course, while most are looking forward to the Ski Trips, there are still lots of challenging things to do in our classroom.

The week started with Mme Howard and French. In math, after a quick multiplication times table computation drill, most of the class learned how to multiply larger digit numbers (e.g., two- and three-digit numbers by a single digit) using the algorithm method (Algorithm Multiplication Method). We will be spending most of this week working on this type of computation question. Those who have shown that they are able to do this type of question, spent the class continuing to work on their independent Dream House project.

After the first nutrition break, in language arts, the period started with cursive writing. After practicing making the letters ‘c’ and ‘a’, and our daily poem, the class learned how to make the letter ‘d’ and practiced writing it in combination with the other letters we have learned. In reading, we started to wrap-up our study of “Leiningen Versus the Ants” by beginning to work on a week-long activity to use the story to create a map of Leiningen’s plantation. In writing, everyone was presented with a variety of options for creating a multimedia product related to the story.

In the last block of the day, in drama/dance, everyone enjoyed an active period. The class started by warming up with a student selected dance (Finger Dance to the song Axel F. or Zombie Dance to the song Ramalama-Bang-Bang), followed by the chance to create a dance with three people using a toilet paper roll. In social studies, after watching the CNN Student News, and reviewing the definitions of rights (an obligation the government has to its citizens) and responsibilities (an obligation citizens have to the government), the class was introduced to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Children. You can watch a short explanation video by clicking on the following link: Rights of Children Video.

Homework

  • Read 10-15 minutes
  • Writing: With the first junior ski trip tomorrow, the class discussion topic for this week is “What are you looking forward to about the ski trips?” and “What did you like best about the first ski trip?”. Please take some time tonight to write a post or a comment about the first question, and come back later in the week to answer the second. For those who are not going on the ski trip, you can write a post/comment about what winter activities you like to do.
  • Art Material Request: We hope to do an art activity on Wednesday/Thursday that requires us to take pictures from magazines. If you have any magazines that you would be willing to donate to our activity, please send them in on Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Math: Please take 5-10 minutes each night to practice your times tables (0×0 to 10×10). You can download and use an App (e.g., MathBoard is one we use in class) to make it more of a game.
  • Ski Day: Make sure you get to school on time tomorrow. Remember that ski equipment can not be taken on your regular school bus. Students not going on the ski trip will be working with Mlle Spear or Mlle Cuffari with the other remaining junior grade 5&6 students.
  • Dates to Remember: Tuesday, January 24 – Ski Day 1; Week of January 30 – ALC Spirit Week; Tuesday, January 31 – Ski Day 2; Friday, February 3 – ALC Winter Activity Day; Tuesday, February 7 – Ski Day 3; Wednesday, February 8 – Report Cards Go Home

Junior Ski Trip – Class Discussion Topic 16

This week sees the first of ALC’s Junior Ski Days! I hope that you will have a lot of fun learning how to ski, and getting a chance to practice!

Before you go, let us know what you are thinking: What are you looking forward to most about your first ski day?

After your day of skiing, leave a post/comment telling us about your experiences: What did you like best about your first ski day?

For those who are not going on the ski trips, you can leave a post/comment about the following: What winter activities do you to do?

Please leave a post/comment to tell us your thoughts and ideas. Remember to be as specific and detailed in your writing as possible! Also, remember to check back later in the week to read what others are writing, and to leave them comments.

Eating Chalk!!

Hi, Jessica ate chalk on the weekend and Jana witnessed it. I (Jana) saw with my own eyes it was exactly the same as chalk and Jessica said it  tasted disgusting she has brought Jana a piece for school on Monday but  Jana is not going to eat it!!!!!

Snowday!!

On our snow day what we did was that me (Jessica) came over to Jana’s house. As Jess was over there, Fraser had invited Dawson C to come over after that we all met up infront of Jana’s house. Then we started to snowboard and have lots of fun so then we all got a bit tired so Jana invited us into her house for hot chocolate popcorn and chips and we also told stories about our daily lives we had lots of fun and laughs after that we went back outside and started to snowboard but Jana got bored of her front yard so she found another awesome hill as we were going up and down we got a few bumps and bruises but it was worth it. Then Dawson had to go, so after he left Jess, Jana and Fraser went into Jana’s basement to play hide ‘n seek and Fraser also brought some snacks (cookies and fishes) so Fraser got bored so he taught me and Jana a new game it was called home free so as we were playing we paused for a break but then it was time for me and Fraser to go. So we left and that was our snow day!!!

Sincerely,
Jessica and Jana
